Folates

Folates are important starting with the desire to have a baby
Folates are part of the complex of B-vitamins and are some of the decisive micronutrients in the formation of new life. An adequate supply of folates for the mother starting at least 4 weeks before pregnancy is essential to counteract miscarriages, pregnancy poisoning, malformations and growth retardation.
Folates support the growth of the baby’s neural tubes that are part of the nervous system. Pregnant women who don’t receive enough folates face a higher risk of having a child with a neural tube defect (spina bifida).

Folates play a decisive role in cell division, hematopoiesis, the development of the central nervous system and immune system function. Folic acid is a synthetic vitamin and cannot be utilized directly by the organism. Folic acid is first converted in the liver into bioactive L-methylfolate (=5-MTHF 5-methyl tetrahydrofolate ) and subsequently used by the body. However, 50% of women cannot fully convert folic acid in L-methylfolate due to genetically restricted enzyme activity . To be able to optimally supply folates to all women, folic acid should be taken in combination with the already bioactive L-methylfolate. With the combination of L-methylfolate and folates (500 micrograms = 1000 ug natural food folate) available in dr.falcon ® graVita those remaining 50% of women can also be provided with an adequate supply of folates.

Omega - 3 fatty acids

Pregnant and lactating women have an increased need for omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA). DHA is primarily found in oily fish such as salmon, anchovies, sardines, mackerel, Atlantic herring, tuna and Maties. However, it is generally difficult to meet the full demand of omega-3 fatty acids through the consumption of fish alone.  Many women do not like to eat greasy seafood and in addition, these fish are often contaminated with heavy metals, thus consumption of these fish can be risky. Consequently, it is generally useful to help meet the demand for DHA through additional revenues such as food supplements.

omega-3-fettsaeuren

The essential fatty acids DHA and EPA are essential for the healthy development of the baby’s brain and eyes as well as for the mother's health. In addition, omega-3 fatty acids have a positive effect on the immune system.

The German Nutrition Society recommends a daily intake of 200 mg DHA from the beginning of pregnancy until the end of breastfeeding.

To ensure that the mother’s reserves are sufficiently filled, the omega-3 fatty acids should be taken starting with the desire to conceive.

dr.falcon ® graVita contains tasteless and odorless, extremely high purity omega-3 fatty acids (Omevital ™) from the production of a large renowned German manufacturer and meets the exact daily demand with only a capsule a day.

Iodine

During pregnancy and lactation, the need for this vital mineral iodine is particularly high. An adequate supply of iodine supports thyroid functions and thyroid hormones both of which perform important tasks for metabolism. Iodine deficiency reduces fertility, thus iodine should be supplied starting with the desire to conceive.

Iron

The need for iron doubles during pregnancy and lactation and even an iron-rich diet is insufficient in many cases. Iron is the main component of red blood cells and therefore extremely important for the transport of oxygen and a healthy immune system.

Calcium / Vitamin D / Magnesium

Calcium is the building material of bone and plays an important role in muscle formation. During lactation, the mother also needs calcium for milk production. In order for calcium to be optimally absorbed in the intestine, vitamin D is additionally required.

Vitamin D plays an important role in calcium metabolism and cell division and thus has a major impact on the development of fetal bone structure and immune system. A vitamin D and vitamin K2 deficiency of the mother during pregnancy leads to decreased bone mineralization in newborns. If the increased calcium requirement can not be met by the diet, calcium is instead taken from the mother's bone. Consequently, not only is sufficient calcium supply important for the child's bone growth, but it can also help reduce the risk of osteoporosis to the mother.

Vitamin D must be consumed in combination with vitamin K2, since vitamin D is dependent on vitamin K2 for its effect. The two vitamins act synergistically, even with the substitution of vitamin D can lead to a lack of K2. Vitamin D is produced by skin cells under the influence of sunlight. In the latitude region in which we live, the sun's rays are usually very weak and, according to National Consumption Study II 91% of people suffer from vitamin D deficiency. It is therefore necessary to take vitamin D together with dietary supplements. Calcium and magnesium are extremely important for healthy bones and teeth.

Women may have an even higher risk of vitamin D deficiency if they

  • have a vitamin K2 deficiency,
  • carry predominantly covered clothes,
  • use high-factor sun protection lotions,
  • have dark skin,
  • have a BMI of more than 30, or
  • reside/remain predominantly in enclosed spaces.

Vitamin K2 (Menaquinon/Menachinon)

Vitamin K2 is the active form of vitamin K and has very important functions for the health of the organism. Vitamin K2 and vitamin D work together. Without vitamin K2, vitamin D is ineffective and can even be harmful. The latest studies showed the following:

  • Vitamin K2 MK7 is the bioactive form of Vitamin K2. The body can only use the trans form of vitamin K2 MK7. The supplements should therefore contain the name "Vitamin K2 MK7 all-trans".
  • Vitamin K2 plays an important role in the formation of the child's skeleton and teeth.
  • Vitamin K2 protects the mother from later osteoporosis and ensures healthy bones and teeth.
  • Vitamin K2 controls blood clotting.
  • Vitamin K2 and D3 work together and protect the organism against cardiovascular diseases. Vitamin K2 can prevent arteriosclerosis and reverse vascular calcification
  • Vitamin K2 protects from cancer. In addition, vitamin K2 can reduce the risk of death of cancer patients by about 30%.
